Competitive Hand Guns
Sport shooting has been around for a couple of centuries now and as the guns continue to change and improve in design so does the sport itself. Competitive use of handguns may not have been there for as long as the use of other guns in sports but this is not to say that it is least popular. In fact it may be as much if not more popular than riffles especially in the armatures arena.
As more and more people engage themselves in this sport there has been a lot on debate about handguns. Most of these debates have been centered around increased regulations on the use this small firearms. Some people are of the opinion that the government should tighten the noose on the ownership and the use of handguns for competitive purposes. However those engaged in the sport are of a different opinion citing various reasons. Some of the reasons include.
Increasing regulations on handguns may have a positive intention but it will have a negative impact on the development of the sport. This is because it will directly and indirectly lock out some people from engaging in the sport.
There are already enough laws and regulations in relation to owning and use of handguns. It may look very simple to buy a handgun legally but what most people fail to know is that owning that gun come with a lot of legal responsibilities that you have to bear. Perhaps it would not be such a bad idea to go through gun ownership laws before going out to buy that handgun. An example of one such law is that you will be held legally responsible if your handgun causes injuries to someone else as a result of your negligence.
Instead of coming up with new regulations, the government should empower gun clubs which are responsible for organizing this competition. To participate in most handgun shooting competition you have to be a member of a gun club and so this clubs if empowered more can play a significant role in monitoring the use of the hand guns by their members.
The regulations are aimed to curb increased number of crimes committed using handguns. The fact is that is quite rare to hear of a criminal case involving a handgun competitor. In fact most criminals that use handguns for their illegal purposes have nothing to do with handgun competition. The notion that this competitions may act as a training ground for future criminals is very farfetched and completely inaccurate.
To participate in a handgun competition you have to have a licensed handgun if you are using a personal gun. Due to this the government’s fear of illegal firearms being used in the competition is totally eliminated. A person using an illegal firearm in a competition would be very silly because they will almost be certainly caught.
As the sport continues to develop and attract more following, excessive regulations may take it a few decades back. Competitive use of handguns is a sport just like any other and the freedom of people to enjoy themselves should always be paramount.
